Amo praia, amo mais ainda Itanhaém. Costumava ir bastante com a família, quando criança. Os anos se passaram, uma década sem ver a cor do mar de Itanhaém. Bloquinho debaixo do braço, lá fui eu pra praia. Protetor FPS 80 + lápis HB, canetinhas e pastel oleoso.

Algumas coisas legais no processo: fazer amizades com pescadores, uma cadela SRD pulguenta me seguindo e barquinhos de pesca no horizonte distante.

Quando velhinha, já bem cansada do mundo cão da cidade, vou esticar as canelinhas numa deliciosa espreguiçadeira de palha, dessas que rangem quando a gente senta. Só pra ver o mar balançando. Sentindo a brisa do mar, e a pele grudenta do mormaço. E desenhando, claro. Eta trem bão!

I love the beach, even more Itanhaém. I used to go with my family, when I was a child. Many years have gone, a whole decade without seeing Itanhaém´s sea color. Notepad behind the arm, there I was at the beach. Sunblock factor 80 + HB pencil, crayons and oil pastels. Some interesting things during the processo of drawing: make friendship with the fishermen, an mongrel full of fleas following me and littler fisher boats on the horizon. When I get old, tired from this crazy world from the city, I’ll stretch my shins at a marvelous straw chair, one thats old enough to squeak when you sit in. Just for me to see the swinging sea. Felling the ocean breeze, and the skin sticky and sultry. And also drawing, of course. Oh boy, what a life!

A luz se apagou, só restou a lua brilhando. No canto, jogado, tudo o que sobrou. O fantoche que outrora trazia movimento e precisão, hoje permanece jogado à sombra do que foi um dia. Fantoche sem amarras não tem serventia, pois não obedece ao comando óbvio da mão teimosa.

THE STUBBORN HAND

The lights went out. The only thing left was the shinning moon. Left aside in the corner, all that´s useless. The puppet that once brought accured movements, now stands in the shadow of what once he was. A puppet with no strings attached is useless, because he lacks the obedience for the obviously command of the stubborn hand.

Sexta-feira passada fui me apresentar novamente na ETEC Albert Einstein. A 4ª Semana de Design e Comunicação Visual apresentou uma série de trabalhos dos alunos, e o pessoal da coordenação conseguiu trazer uns palestrantes bem legais. Lembrando da minha época de colégio e faculdade, adorava essas semanas especiais. Tudo me parecia tão inspirador…

Mais uma vez os alunos foram excelentes, rindo das minhas piadinhas sem graça e simpatizando comigo. Entenderam os projetos, fizeram perguntas e rolou um sorteio de brindes. Em seguida da minha palestra, rolou o pessoal da mymag. Demais: uma nova proposta de revista interativa.

   Um rapazinho muito talentoso chamado Joaquim Dick (9747-3011) fez minha caricatura enquanto a coisa toda acontecia. Além de ótimo desenhista, ele é uma simpatia de pessoa. Algum evento que precise de um caricaturista ao vivo? Recomendo. O menino é bom, e rápido. E pegou a essência do olhar, a boca pequena e demais traços que eu reconheço como meus. Amei.

No mais, fiquei feliz com toda a experiência. E feliz por perceber que cada dia mais, tem mais gente interessada em fazer e pensar design. Que esse pessoal jovem de hoje caia no mercado de trabalho e se transforme numa ferramenta de evolução. Por que talento, eles tem sobrando.

GIVING A LECTURE AT ALBERT EINSTEIN SCHOOL ON MAY/11

Last friday I gave a lecture at Albert Einstein School. The 4th Design an Communication Week present lots of works from the students, and the coordination team got some really good people to talk to the students. Thinking about my time at high school, I used to love thi kind of special events. Everything seemed so inspiring… Again, the students were excellents, laughing from my silly jokes. They understood what was my point of view, asked me questions and I could even raffle some giveaways. Next my lecture, there were some people from mymag, a new idea of interactive magazine. A very talented young man named Joaquim Dick made my caricature while I was talnking to the people. Besides being a great designer, the guy is very nice. If you’re looking for someone to darw people at your big event, he’s the guy. Hes very good, has a great work and he’s quicky. The essence of my eyes, my little mounth and other body traces got simply perfect. I loved it. To finish, I am glad for the whole expirience. And happy to notice that each day, more and more people are interested ond doing and thinking design. May this young fellows be capable of being a tool of evolution, when they time to work comercially comes. Because talent they already got a lot.

Não, as estrelas não caíram do céu só por que você quis. Nem as nuvens pararam de navegar as profundezas do universo atmosférico. As flores continuam se abrindo, as abelhas polinizando tudo e por aí vai. Pode bater o pé, pode dar chilique: não vai adiantar. A natureza é maior, mais forte e equilibrada.

CHEAP PHILOSOPHY AND CRAYON

No, the stars didn’t fall from the sky just because you wanted. Neither the clouds stoped navigate the atmospheric universe’s depths. Flowers keep opening, bees keep pollinating everything and there it goes. You can eat your pants, you can start the worst tantrum: it won’t work. Nature is bigger, stronger and muchhhh more balanced.

Um teto para se morar. Um telhadinho para guardar seus amores e seus desejos. Um punhado de verde para se encher os olhos. Um respiro de ar fresco para limpar as vias aéreas. Uma sombra gostosa para dividir com os insetos. Uma casa no campo, com sombra e água fresca.

A CONTRY HOUSE, SOME SHADOW AND FRESH WATER…

A ceiling to live in. A little roof to keep loves and wishes. A handful of green to feast the eyes. A breath of fresh air to clean the airways. A nice and cozy shadow to share with the insects. A country house, some shadow and fresh water.

Eram três, provavelmente irmãs. A mais velha, aparentava 12, mas devia ter 14. Era mirrada, realmente. A do meio, chuto uns 10. E a menorzinha, criança de fato, lá pelos 8. Em fração de segundos passei por elas, extasiadas com uma vitrine, e voei longe.

Minhas pernas seguiram caminhando o ritmo apressado de quem saiu tarde do trabalho, mas a mente viajou. Fui até a periferia onde elas moram. Um barraco improvisado, ou um casebre de tijolos aparentes, talvez? As roupas cinzas e sujas, que volta e meia são lavadas e penduradas num cordão de arame, desbotaram pelo uso. Um cachorro pulguento latindo nos fundos. Um bebê chorando de fome. Talvez um pai presente? Talvez uma mãe? Talvez desempregados, talvez lançados à sorte de seu próprio azar… quem sabe?

O extase da pequena, diante da blusinha da moda de R$ 14,00, com o dedo em riste. Um único dedo separando o sonho genuíno de uma criança. O dedo que me fez pensar: “Que cena fortíssima, um clássico do cinema, da literatura, do teatro, da arte…”. Um dedo em riste… Que quisera eu, fosse obra de uma crônica apenas, e não da realidade.

THREE IN THE COLD

They were probably three sisters. The oldest one, looking like 12 years old, but should have 14. She was really skinny. The middle one, probably 10 years old. And the youngest, a true child, looking like 8 years old. In a second I passed through them, looking amazed by a shop window, and then I started daydreaming. My legs, continuously walking the pace of whom made too much extra work, but my mind, was travelling. In a question of seconds, I went to the suburbs where they lived. A makeshift shack, or maybe a shed with bricks exposed? The dirty and gray clothes, who now and then are washed and hung on a thread of wire, faded from use. A flea-bitten dog barking in the back. A baby crying from hunger. Maybe a parent present? Perhaps a mother? Maybe unemployed, perhaps thrown the fate of their own bad luck … who knows? The ecstasy of the little one, admiring some fashionable cheap blouse, pointed the piece with her finger. A single finger separating the genuine dream of a child. The finger that got me thinking: “What a very strong scene, a classic from cinema, literature, theater, art …”. One finger pointing in the air … I wish it were only a chronic, rather than reality.

Adoro ir no Viena por que lá, ao invés de esperar pela comida impacientemente, você pode ficar viajando e desenhar na mesa. Não que dê pra ir lá todo santo dia, mas quando dá é uma beleza. Comida boa + possibilidade de desenhar = Iurrú! Fora que o ambiente agradável ajuda muito, tanto no gosto da comida quanto no resultado do desenho. Amooo!

Drawing on Viena’s Tables

I love to eat at Viena because there, instead of waiting forever for the food, one can daydream and draw on the table. It’s nothing that I do on a daily-basis but, when its possible, its great for sure. Good food + drawing = Hurrayyy! Besides, the ambient helps a lot, either on the taste of the food or on the result of the draw. Lovvveeee it!

Semana passada dei um pulo no Aeroporto de Guarulhos (Cumbica – SP). Enquanto aguardava um vôo subir alto no céu, levando dois amados, olhava outros tantos vôos subindo e descendo. Caderneta de rascunhos na mão, não pude evitar sentar num café e observar idas e vindas. Tantos sonhos, tanta gente, tanto tudo. A aviação moderna é realmente fabulosa.

DRAWING AT THE AIRPORT

Last week I went to Guarulho’s Airport (Cumbica – SP). While waiting one flight to go up in the sky, carrying two beloved ones, I watched many other flights going up and down. Sketchbook in my hands, I couldn’t help it, I sat at a coffeshop and started to behold the comings and goings. So many dreams, so many people, so many everything. Modern aviation is really fabulous, isn’t it?

Confiança, retidão de caráter e integridade. O Samurai é capaz de perder a própria vida em prol daquilo que defende. Movimentos precisos numa vida imprecisa.

Enquanto vetorizava este, filmei com um daqueles programas de captura de tela em vídeo. Levou três horas, e consumiu uns três GB também (filmando em AVI). Segue o vídeo abaixo.

Que eu possa um dia virar 1/10 de samurai. Só pra equilibrar.

SAMURAI

Confidence, fair play and integrity. The Samurai is capable of losing his own life for something he defends. Precise movements in an imprecise life. While I was tracing this draw, I made a film using a video capture program, the kind of program people use to take snapshots from the computer screen. It took me 3 hours and 3 GB to do so (filmed in AVI). At the link you can see the video. May I become part samurai, even 10%, someday. Just for the equilibrium.
